The study of color and light drives my work. My subject matter is what I see in everyday life or in the imagination of my mind. I use wool, silk, twine, all types of fibers, experimenting with the wet felting process. On occasion I will add stitching by hand or using free motion sewing. I find the spontaneous nature of wetting and rolling the fibers and not always being sure of what I will see when the process is finished completely intriguing. The fact that there is no going back and correcting, but allowing the fibers to felt in their own randomness offers a degree of excitement.
Art has been a constant thread that has connected a variety of experiences I have enjoyed in my life. Beginning my formal art studies at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art, I continued as an artist through private studies and seminars across the country.
I have taught adult painting and enjoyed seeing students develop skills and realize their own potential. As an independent artist, I painted murals for corporations and private homes. I designed and manufactured my own line of pins and spiritual art. I owned and managed a shop that featured 33 Chicago and suburban artists.
When I discovered felting as an art form, I was so curious about how these beautiful objects were made. I began taking classes and I was fortunate to study with Moy Mackay and Wendy Bailey. I feel everything I have learned on my life long art path has lead me to this medium.
I thank my family for their encouragement, my art circle for honest feedback, and my friends for joining me on this path.
I hope you enjoy my work.
